Were you one of the 26.5 million people who watched the Oscars this year? I will admit, award shows bore me for the most part, but I did watch the show this year. Truth be told, if the OKC Thunder were playing, the Oscar’s would not have won out, lucky for the Oscar’s.
If you did watch, then you will know exactly the moment I am going to share with you, when Lady Gaga won the Oscar for Best Song titled Shallow Oscar Performance a duet Gaga sung with Bradley Cooper in the movie “A Star is Born”. (A great movie by the way if you haven’t seen it yet!) Her speech still resonates with me as I write this blog for you today;
“It’s not about winning. It's about not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion and it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave, and you keep on going.”
~Lady Gaga.
Do you remember Lady Gaga’s meat dress days? (If you don’t google it) She was made fun of, ridiculed you name it. Her “stunt” as some deemed it was outrageous and frowned upon. Do you think if she listened to her critics back then she would have been shining on the stage at the Oscar’s? Do you think if Lady Gaga listened to any and all of her critics over the years she would be experiencing the success she is today? She is like a race horse, she puts on her blinders and runs her OWN race.
Which leads me to you and YOUR DREAMS. Have you forgotten how to dream? Has life consumed you so much that your dreams do not exist? How are you doing with seeing your dreams come to fruition? Who are you listening too? Do you have critics in your life that are deterring you from reaching your goals and dreams? Are YOU the one preventing yourself from reaching your best life?
Let’s talk about this in depth. If you are the person who has lost track of their dreams or you have stopped dreaming altogether, then start today to find them! Don’t delay! What are you waiting for? I have been there and understand how this happens, this is a real thing. While busy raising my children and working on my business, I forgot how to dream. In the trenches of Motherhood and trying to please others, I didn’t allow myself to dream. Mother’s reading this, DON’T MAKE THIS MISTAKE! Your life, your heart and your dreams are important. They are valuable and valid. Your children need to see you fighting for your dreams too! Don’t wait until you live in an empty nest and look in the mirror, and the person you have become is not who you thought you were. Your identity is not your children’s or your spouse or anyone else’s. Your identity is YOUR’s. You own it!! The women you were before you became a Mother is still in your soul! Let her out to dream!
So is life getting in your way as you try to reach your goals and dreams? Are you in a place where your busy life is getting in your way? Just can’t get traction because daily life is getting in your way? It’s time to stop making excuses, it is time to be proactive! What if you spent one hour a day on your dream? One hour, 60 minutes….what can you give up to allow yourself to work on your dream for one hour a day? Anything that is important enough, is worth 60 minutes a day. And what if next month you invest two hours a day on your dream? And the following month three hours a day? It will grow sister it will grow!! I promise you it will! But you HAVE to make your dream a priority and keep it in the forefront of your very being!
Is there a Who getting in your way to reaching your dream? Do you have people in your life that quash your dreams at every corner? I have two thoughts here, first of all, if you have people in your life holding you back, then perhaps these people need to be eliminated from your inner circle. We all have a friend, or someone that you think is a friend that out of their own fear and insecurity does not want to see you succeed. I am not recommending that you break off all of your friendships, but take some time to evaluate WHO is in your inner circle and decide whether or not they really need to be there. Now I do realize that not everyone in your inner circle can be eliminated that easily. But the second thing for you to wrap your head around is there isn’t anyone in this world that will want your dream to come true more than you. Even the people that love and support you the most, spouses, parents, children, still will not be half as passionate about your dream as you are.
Are YOU the problem? Are YOU getting in your way? Are YOU making excuses? I can’t work on my dreams because I don’t have the time. I can’t work on my dream because my family won’t let me. I can’t work on my dream because…..you can fill in the blank. If this is the conversation going on in your mind, then I am here to break it to you, YOU are the problem. News flash, we all have 24 hours in one day, it is what you choose to allow in your 24 hours that makes the difference. Is it more important to you to watch the episode of The Bachelor or work on your dream? Is it more important to get sucked into social media for two hours or work on your dream? Your family does not control whether or not you work on your dream that too is a choice. We make choices every day that will move us closer to our dream or that won’t move us closer to our dreams. It is that simple and that cut and dried.
I am a huge believer in chasing your wildest dream. Sometimes dreams are accomplished in a short amount of time and more often than not you can spend a lifetime working on your dream. But keep moving forward, don’t stand still. The worst thing than not reaching your dream is quitting when it gets hard. You will never regret working hard towards your dream. You will regret giving up on a great dream.
